Wenfeng Tower, also known as White Breast Monk Pagoda, is located on the top of Longshan mountain in the southeast corner of Yingzhong Town, Zhongxiang City. The existing pagoda was built in 1390,the 23rd year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty ,and is a typical pagoda just like a upsidedown bowl. Its central geographical coordinates are 112°35"34.59" E, 31°09"55.52" N, at the altitude of 60 metres.
Wenfeng Tower is composed of six parts : the underground palace the foundation of the tower ,the body of the tower,the face of the tower , the umbrella of the tower and the tower spire . It is a typical Lama tower ( like a upsidedown bowl ) with a total height of 21.52 meters .The base presents the contracted octagon.The upper is the upsidedown bowl,which is like the inverted Buddhistartifact--the pan bowl. The 21 Xianglun decreases progressively.Under the each eave there are the brick decorations similar to bucket arches. On the top, there are three copper round covers with the copper bells hanging around them. The design of the the tower is unique and the whole body is white like a giant pen erected,meaning"Xing Wenyun ,Sheng Wenfeng" ,That is why it is called Wenfeng.
Because of its unique shape and structure ,Wenfeng Tower is a precious example of pagodas in Central China.Togeyher with the patterns dand records preserved in the Ming Dynasty official chronicles and other documents ,Wenfeng Tower is a cultural heritage of outstanding significance and universal value for cultural relic research.In 1956,Wenfeng Tower was contained as a cultural relic protection unit in Hubei Province .In 2006 ,it was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relic protection unit .It is one of the landmark buildings of Zhongxiang--a famous national historical and cultural city.
